Argentine Red Tegu

SALVATOR RUFESCENS

These Tegus are often seen destroying bee hives because of its fondness for consuming honey.

The sharp teeth and strong jaws make it easy for the Tegus to bite through and chew through the toughest meat.

Tegus are large reptiles, with some species reaching a total length of around four feet, and a weight of approximately fifteen pounds.

Did you know?

Tegus can stay underwater for up to 22 minutes—and have even been spotted taking a nap while submerged!
