COMMON BOA
BOA CONSTRICTOR IMPERATOR
Taxonomy, or the classification and naming of living things, is always changing as scientists learn more about them. Common Boas used to be considered a single species, but now have been split into two separate species.
Common Boas reach an average of 4 to 8 ft, but are known to reach 12ft in length and typically weigh up to 13 pounds as an adult.
Common Boas eat small to medium-sized mammals and birds, preferring rodents.
Did you know?
Both boas and pythons subdue prey by constricting. One big difference between these groups of snakes is that pythons lay their eggs, but boas retain the eggs in their bodies in a process called ovovivipary until they hatch, giving birth to live young.
