COMMON SNAPPING TURTLE

CHELYDRA SERPENTINA

A Common Snapping Turtle is aggressive because it cannot retract its head and limbs into its shell to protect itself.

These turtles are omnivorous and will eat anything they can find including plants, insects, fish, frogs and snakes.

They live to be 30-50 years in the wild and up to 100 years in captivity.

Did you know?

The sex of the turtle is determined by the temperature of the egg during incubation. Eggs incubated at 68 °F will produce females while eggs incubated between 73-75 °F will produce males. The ideal temperature to incubate eggs is 70-72 °F, as this will result in both male and female hatchlings.
