DACELO

Kookaburras are a species of terrestrial tree kingfishers. Males are commonly spotted by the bright blue on their wings and tails. Females are harder to spot but still recognized by their reddish brown color.

Native to Australia and New Guinea, Kookaburras are found in habitats ranging from humid forest to arid savanna, as well as in suburban areas with tall trees or near running water.

Kookaburras are almost exclusively carnivorous, eating mice, snakes, insects, small reptiles, and sometimes other birds.

Growing 15-17 inches in length they are a relatively small bird only weighing on average 7-16 ounces.
