TWO-TOED SLOTH
CHOLOEPUS DIDACTYLUS
Sloths are built for life in the treetops. They eat, sleep, and give birth upside down. Since they spend most of their lives upside down, their organs have become attached to their ribcage, making them able to breathe while hanging upside down.
The Two-toed Sloth is one of the slowest mammals on earth. They sleep for about 15-20 hours every day. When awake, they often remain motionless.
They get almost all of their water intake from juicy leaves, shoots, and fruits that they forage on during the night.
Did you know?
Sloths are surprisingly good swimmers and sometimes fall directly from the treetops into rivers below.
